Comment Post #291013 Welcome to Math Codidact. Are you the author of the question that was posted at SE, or are you copying it from there so it can be answered here? If the latter, please add [attribution](https://math.codidact.com/help/referencing). Thank you.

Comment Post #288729 The values are integers. For each post type, for each of upvote and downvote, we can set a number. Current values are: - Question: up +5, down -2 - Answer: up +10, down -2 These were the defaults before we allowed customization. More recently, setting up a new category includes assigning va...

Question Should posting on Meta affect reputation?
When we launched this community, we did not yet have the ability to set different reputation grants for different categories. We've had this for a while but we failed to follow up before now, sorry. Do you want us to change posts on Meta to not award rep for upvotes or subtract it for downvotes? ...

Answer A: LaTeX formulas not rendered correctly in summary
This problem is now fixed, but you can't see the fix here because previews are turned off. Previews are turned off because of this problem -- rendered Mathjax can be very tall and that did unfortunate things to the category page. We're happy to turn previews back on if that's what folks want. At l...

Comment Post #287761 What you describe in your last paragraph is kind of what I had in mind for not-bounties: at some ability level (so not brand-new users), you can start earning a small number of "promotion tokens" or whatever we'd call them, and then you could spend a token to highlight a post for some period of time....

Comment Post #287761 We want to add linked/related posts in the future. Relatedly, we'd like to improve how duplicate questions are handled -- and I see these fitting together. Imagine a way for community members to suggest *both* duplicate candidates *and* related posts, forestalling some of the arguments over whether...

Comment Post #287761 Whether (and how much) rep is granted is actually configurable, per category, so a community can set meta to 0. This wasn't always true, so a bunch of communities got created with all categories granting rep. We didn't make a global change, but each community can decide how much to count meta -- on...

Comment Post #287761 Thanks and welcome! We're actively working on improving the platform and this kind of feedback is really helpful. (A fix to make pending edits more visible is under review now.) I'm sorry about some of the speedbumps; now that you mention it, yes we should add help about reputation, which I plan t...

Answer A: Posts with math are very, very tall in the feed
Oh my. The new preview shows the first N characters of a post (default N=200). But a MathJax character can consume rather a lot of space. I'm going to disable the previews on this community for now. Please decide as a community whether you want them, and if so we'll figure out a value that wo...

Answer A: Why doesn't \$ work?
Testing a fix: \$1 - that was written as `\$1` . I'm not fluent in MathJax, so I'll point to the PR and the associated issue for those who would like to take a closer look. I'm marking this status-complete based on those discussions; please let me know if there's still a problem.

Answer A: How to get rid of the tag ordinals?
We don't have a way to outright delete tags yet, but moderators can merge a tag into another tag. After confirming that `ordinals` still had 0 posts, I merged it into `ordinal-numbers`. You shouldn't see the former show up in tag suggestions now, and it's not visible in the tags list.

Comment Post #285036 Thanks @#56817. Do you have more information on why those users delete those answers? I was never active on Math SE (and wouldn't be qualified to evaluate answers anyway). Comment Post #285425 Thanks for the feedback. How can we get more questions answered? Is it that we have good clear questions but not enough people answering them, or is it that we have questions that are unclear and need the authors to edit something before they *can* be answered, or is it something else?

Answer A: Should there be more than one sort of math community?
I'm not a mathematician so maybe I'm missing something, but I would think that "When I see a problem like this, what methods or theorems should I think of to solve it?" would be an appropriate type of question. It starts with a problem and asks not for a formula or proof but, instead, methods. Simi...

Question How can we grow this community?
Codidact's communities have a lot of great content that is helping people on the Internet. Our communities are small, though, and sustainable communities depend on having lots of active, engaged participants. The folks already here are doing good work; our challenge is to find more people like you ...

Question Please welcome your new moderator, Peter Taylor
Math has been running without any community moderators for a while. This is not ideal from a community-building perspective, and with this community in particular, it's also far from ideal for Codidact staff members who are not math-fluent to be the ones evaluating flags and handling other issues. ...

Comment Post #282658 Thanks @#36356. This is still a small, young community, and one where most of the Codidact community team doesn't have domain knowledge so it's hard to evaluate flags. There's not a ton of work now but having someone with real math clues would help. We're happy to advise, answer questions, etc, thoug...

Answer A: What story and TWO-digit Natural Numbers best fit Bayes' Theorem chart?
Thinking that I had acted on my own for reasons forgotten, I reopened it in response to this question. The questions do sound awfully similar -- that the methods that answer one would also answer the other -- but I'm not a math expert. It's now been pointed out that this was flagged as a duplicat...

Comment Post #282055 I'm still not sure what you're asking. The text you bolded says that the outcome is "almost always certain". It's an illustration of probability and outcome, not a text about plane crashes. It's an example the author takes as given. You seem to be objecting to the example. Is your question about ...
