Answer A: Recommended practices for reformatting one's old posts (e.g. to include automatic footnotes)?
One option is to edit posts as you come across them, rather than all at once. This way you can also look them over to see if there's anything else you want to improve while you're there. `` footnotes work, so nothing's broken now (unlike, say, broken links or missing images). This means there'...

Comment Post #296090 I was asking about improving the (currently) poor questions that nonetheless have good answers, yes. Sometimes that's a big task and not worth it, but are there any easier wins to be had? (I am not a mathematician and don't understand most of the posts on this community, so I'm not in a positio...

Comment Post #295460 Yikes. Thanks for letting us know! We know about (and haven't yet been able to find) the bug with the reputation number being different on that specific page; it seems to pull your rep from some other community, but we haven't been able to characterize it. We didn't know about a bug there with...

Comment Post #295456 Welcome to Codidact. We welcome feedback from everybody; there's not a tenure requirement. Thank you for these suggestions. Comment Post #293737 Another community on our network creates resource articles ([example](https://languages.codidact.com/posts/279224)). These are link-heavy but are annotated, so while there are off-site dependencies, there is on-site organization, context, and summarization. I don't know if that approach would w...

Comment Post #290765 Debugging: @#36356 did this comment notify you? (I apologize to the other people following this thread. I'm trying to minimize disruptions but we have a weird bug that is specifically happening here. I'm sorry for the disruption and will clean it up ASAP.)

Comment Post #291013 Welcome to Math Codidact. Are you the author of the question that was posted at SE, or are you copying it from there so it can be answered here? If the latter, please add [attribution](https://math.codidact.com/help/referencing). Thank you.

Comment Post #288729 The values are integers. For each post type, for each of upvote and downvote, we can set a number. Current values are: - Question: up +5, down -2 - Answer: up +10, down -2 These were the defaults before we allowed customization. More recently, setting up a new category includes assignin...

Question Should posting on Meta affect reputation?
When we launched this community, we did not yet have the ability to set different reputation grants for different categories. We've had this for a while but we failed to follow up before now, sorry. Do you want us to change posts on Meta to not award rep for upvotes or subtract it for downvot...

Answer A: LaTeX formulas not rendered correctly in summary
This problem is now fixed, but you can't see the fix here because previews are turned off. Previews are turned off because of this problem -- rendered Mathjax can be very tall and that did unfortunate things to the category page. We're happy to turn previews back on if that's what folks want. ...

Comment Post #287761 What you describe in your last paragraph is kind of what I had in mind for not-bounties: at some ability level (so not brand-new users), you can start earning a small number of "promotion tokens" or whatever we'd call them, and then you could spend a token to highlight a post for some period of t...

Comment Post #287761 We want to add linked/related posts in the future. Relatedly, we'd like to improve how duplicate questions are handled -- and I see these fitting together. Comment Post #287761 Whether (and how much) rep is granted is actually configurable, per category, so a community can set meta to 0. This wasn't always true, so a bunch of communities got created with all categories granting rep. We didn't make a global change, but each community can decide how much to count meta -...

Answer A: Posts with math are very, very tall in the feed
Oh my. The new preview shows the first N characters of a post (default N=200). But a MathJax character can consume rather a lot of space. I'm going to disable the previews on this community for now. Please decide as a community whether you want them, and if so we'll figure out a value tha...

Answer A: Why doesn't \$ work?
Testing a fix: \$1 - that was written as `\$1` . I'm not fluent in MathJax, so I'll point to the PR and the associated issue for those who would like to take a closer look. I'm marking this status-complete based on those discussions; please let me know if there's still a problem.

Answer A: How to get rid of the tag ordinals?
We don't have a way to outright delete tags yet, but moderators can merge a tag into another tag. After confirming that `ordinals` still had 0 posts, I merged it into `ordinal-numbers`. You shouldn't see the former show up in tag suggestions now, and it's not visible in the tags list.

Comment Post #285425 Thanks for the feedback. How can we get more questions answered? Is it that we have good clear questions but not enough people answering them, or is it that we have questions that are unclear and need the authors to edit something before they *can* be answered, or is it something else?

Answer A: Should there be more than one sort of math community?
I'm not a mathematician so maybe I'm missing something, but I would think that "When I see a problem like this, what methods or theorems should I think of to solve it?" would be an appropriate type of question. It starts with a problem and asks not for a formula or proof but, instead, methods. ...

Question How can we grow this community?
Codidact's communities have a lot of great content that is helping people on the Internet. Our communities are small, though, and sustainable communities depend on having lots of active, engaged participants. The folks already here are doing good work; our challenge is to find more people like ...
