Thank you, I know that (except for the term _unbiased variance_). My question was about not just smaller than the population samples - it was about sample sizes which are less than $30$. (more) |

First, let me formulate what I implied from your answer: the both notations are mathematically correct.
Second, my comment to your thoughts on the second part of my question is I think you does not give enough attention to the assessment of how readability changes when I use `i=N` instead of `N`. On... (more) |

As I mentioned in another comment, there is no justification for your edit. The difference, in terms of readability, between `i=N` and `N` is tiny and I consider it negligible enough to allow myself to use my preferred way in a public post. With that regard, you enforce your preferred way on me, thus... (more) |

I would argue that "usually" is not a good enough reason to change a man's post in such an impudent manner. I had noticed people did not use `i=` at the top of the sum sign. That bothered me both aesthetically and from the readability viewpoint. I developed my way of writing the sum sign, i.e. using ... (more) |

Question | — |
I would like to receive explanations to the edit to my post. I have recently posted a question. Here is how I typed a sum there: $\sum{i=1}^{i=N}$. Here is how it was edited: $\sum{i=1}^{N}$. The comment to the edit reads: "... for correctness". I cannot understand what is incorrect in my way of writing the sum. However, since I am not a mathematic... (more) |

Question | — |
What is the formula for sample standard deviation of a small sample size? The formula for sample standard deviation is given by: $$s = \sqrt{\frac{\sum{i=1}^{i=N} (xi - \bar{x})^2}{N-1}}$$ Am I right that when the sample size is small ($N<30$), the formula for sample standard deviation becomes: $$s = t{N-1, \text{confidence}} \sqrt{\frac{\sum{i=1}^{i=N} (xi - \bar... Question | — |
Is there a statistical method to identify the type of outliers shown in the pictures attached to my question? I have obtained experimental data:Imagealttext Those "horns" (leftmost and rightmost peaks) in each image are outliers. Is there a statistical method that can identify those "horns" as outliers? Possibly useful clarifications. 1) The data is the distribution of white pixels along the ho... (more) |
