Scalar that varies across one or multiple scalar axes
I have recently read:

 > If anything has a quantifiable value that varies across one or multiple scalar axes, it's a signal, and you can study it.

What does "multiple scalar axes" mean?<br>
I would assume it means something like a value on a map, traced by X,Y coordinates, but there might be an even more basic example.
